Putting the pieces together...

This week for class we put all the pieces together for our Pecha Kucha.  The first day I uploaded all my photos to voicethread.  Then I re-arranged them in the correct order and the next day I followed my story board for a steady flow to record.  However; that did not go as well.  I was stuck, I was going to fast, I was going to slow, and so on.  I found myself getting frustrated with the information I had.  I was asking myself what am I doing wrong. Once I took a breather I returned to my assignment.  Next time this will takes more than a week for me to do, since we have different schedules and a lot of outside issues to deal with.

Tonight we meet with our group and I want to know how they handled thier Pecha Kucha. Speaking of meeting with our groups, I did not like last week meeting. We used faceflow, and there were no faces flowing across my screen at all.  Deb had to be the middle man, Deb could only hear Josh, Josh and I could not hear each other.  I hope we do not use that this time. It was horrible!!

After reviewing some of the documents provided by the professor, I can say some information I already knew.  I had to look up information for 280Slides and it was an easier search for me. Nothing fascinating at all.  I like 280Slides concept as well.

Well, this is all I have to say about this week. I hope you all have a good rest of the week and a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Peace....

  1. Our group had difficulties with faceflow as well. Eventually all three of us were able to get on and talk, but it is not a feature rich and reliable system. It was also the first time that any group that I have been in has used the video chat feature and it really did not help the productivity or spur on more discussion.

It's good to try new tools, but I have a feeling that face flow will not be around long.

  2. Our group gave up on FaceFlow and just used Skype. It wasn't worth wasting time to get it to work and just wanted to spend our time working on the activity.

After reading that you had some problems with reading too fast or slow, I thought I would share a tip from another blog post I read last week that really helped. Another group did some math and found out that keeping the script for each slide to 20-30 words ends up getting you close to the 20 second mark. I really thought that as helpful with the planning of my script.

  3. I had already documented my struggles with the Pecha Kucha and I totally forgot about the 20-30 words that were suggested by another group!! That might have helped but probably not much. Just a frustrating project for me. I kept thinking about the process because I felt I must've done something wrong for it to be such a pain for me. I concluded it wasn't the storyboard - that actually helped when recording the voice. It wasn't VoiceThread either. I honestly think it was just the whole 20 x 20 structure being too constricting for me from a presentation standpoint. I feel like I struggle with being artsy or creative. I like writing rhyming poems but not Haikus. I like giving presentations, just not Pecha Kuchas...
